When it is dark and puffy under your eyes, is it mostly due to lack of sleep? I have woken up one day after crying hard the night before and looking like I had been socked in the eye and was a bit worried about that.
Is there something wrong with my eyes?

If you were rubbing your eyes you might have slightly bruised the delicate undereye area which would explain both the puffiness and the darkness.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your eyes.  This is a normal response.  After having an emotional night, I have woken up with my eyes so swollen (puffy swollen w/dark circles under my eyes & puffy eyelids).  I could feel the puffiness it was so bad.  If you need a quick fix, a cold compress can help a bit, but it should go away by the next day.

For most people, dark & puffy eyes is simply due to a lack of sleep, and can be remedied with a good night's rest.  For some it is a chronic condition that to date there is no sure fire cure for.

It did go away, but I was getting a lot of "Something looks different about you!" I told them that I noticed it too haha...I didn't mention crying since I'm such a tough chick ;P

During a tough night you might sleep with your head and torso a little elevated.  Using two pillows instead of one so that blood and other fluids don't"pool" in your  face.  That might help the puffiness a bit.

That makes sense, thanks for the heads up. Hopefully I won't have to deal with that anytime soon, but I'm sure it will help to reduce the puffiness!

If you see puffiness in the morning, (on an ordinary day when you was normal and not emotional) then probable it means that you might be dehydrated...Ensure that you have adequate water and also make sure that you are not lying on a flat pillow which might cause puffiness.

Crying always makes my eye puffy, too, and usually red. It's embarrassing, because everybody can tell when I've been crying. I'm jealous of actors who cry so beautifully and don't get red faces, puffy eyes, etc.

When I cry my eyes always get puffy and red. There is no hiding it. My whole family can tell when I have been crying. There is no lying to them.

I've cried so hard that my eyes were actually stuck together the next day, it looked like I had been beaten. Of course that was years ago and my life isn't so full of turmoil anymore.

No there isn't at all. This is what happens when there has been a huge strain on the eyes. You have to understand that you were crying and with that said you are going to have results with the crying spell. It goes along with just about anything in your body.
