HOME REMEDIES

Home Remedies I've tried:
These are some remedies I use 1-3 times a week....

Green Tea (organic, ofcourse): are high in anti oxidants and is an anti-imflammotary. It is
more beneficial than normal tea for your eyes and skin. The simplest way would be
to have a cup of green tea and keep the used tea bag in the fridge, make two cups, and u
have a set of eye masks Smile
You can also make a cup of green tea, drink half the cup, and chill the other half.
Then dip cotton pads and leave on the eye for 10-15mins...if you still have more remaining,
you can dip more cotton pads and leave on your face, or wipe ur face with it like u would
with a toner...very refreshing (and it refines the look of pores!).
Tip: Green tea is a great de-toxifying health drink (organic is always best), once to twice
a day after meals is good enough...it even helps to prevent cancerous cells from forming,
speed up metabolism to promote weight-loss (if u drink it 3-4 times a day after your meals)
or prevent weight-gain, and it promotes good blood circulation (thereby improving the look
of dark circles Smile.

Strawberries: are high in antioxidants and Vitamin C, and are mild enough (unlike citrus fruits)
for the eye area, I find they work sooo much better than cucumber.
You can cut into two thin slices and place over your eyes..
Or u can crush up a strawberry, and pat/massage it very lightly around the eyes, then leave
on and rinse after 20 mins.
U can also use it on your whole face, crush 2 or 3 and add a teaspoon of sugar and massage your
face (and hands)with it! Its a great exfoliant and smoothes + brightens your skin instantly!
Tip: Strawberries are yummy low calorie snacks...plus rubbing a strawberry over your teeth
daily will gradually whiten them (because of their high level of antioxidants)...a good thing to
remember before u simply pop it into your mouth...strawberries may be pricey, but they are
definately worth every penny, I buy atleast 3 small packs a week even when I'm broke.

Milk Powder: has lactic acid in it that'll help to lighten dark circles...take a spoonful,
add a bit of water enough to form a paste and apply on eyes as a mask. Leave on till it dries.
You can add a drop honey if u'd like. I've only tried this twice, but it does seem to lighten
the dark circles I imagine more so with regular use.

Home Remedies I want to try!:
I've heard of a home remedy involving regular un-flavored gelatin, (mix 1 tsp of gelatin + 1 tbsp boiled water,
allow to cool, then pat the mixture on eyes, leave on 20-30mins before rinsing off...this is to be done daily)
It's supposedly high in Vitamin K and Biotin which really helps the eye area. I'll try it out some time soon. It
might help with the problem of sunken eyes as the above remedies are more suited to help
with puffiness and dark circles.

PRODUCTS:
I'm 23 and on a budget...so these are the products I use that work without needing
to splurge on high-end or dept store brands.

Multipurpose De-Stress Product:
St Ives Cucumber Elastin Eye and Face Stress Gel...it's a double duty product, plus
it's cheap, and is heaven to use on puffy or tired eyes...keep it in the fridge! Put it on
whenever you feel like you need to de-stress and soothe. It's one of my must-haves product.

Night Eye Creams:

Body Shop Vitamin C Eye Reviver : I love this product but have only tried it once...sometimes
not having enough Vitamin C in your diet worsens dark circles especially since I used to be a
smoker (smoking reduces absorption of Vit C in the body, and yes, it definately contributes to
dark circles, sunken eyes and premature aging in general!), so this really 'feeds' your eye area
and helps prevent lines and premature aging. Tip: Make sure you take in atleast 500mg of Vit C
a day.

Olay Total Effects Eye cream : I'm currently using this as a night eye cream because I'm
using the Total Effects SPF moisturizer. It works ok and is effective enough, but I'd like
to switch to the above product soon.

Day Eye Creams:

Dove Brightening Eye Cream with SPF or Nivea Q10 Eye Cream with SPF: I feel like I need
an eyecream with SPF and UV protection to prevent it from getting darker and aging
prematurely, so these products are cheap yet effective, currently I'm using Nivea.
I did read somewhere that eye products containing SPF can be abit harsh for the eye area
and will cause irritation if u have really sensitive eyes. I don't know how true this is
though. But incase you have sensitive eyes but want to treat your dark circles, you can
use The Body Shop's Moisture White Eye Serum, which contains natural ingredients, and
isn't as pricey as department store brands.

Good Luck!

Wow!  Thanks for sharing so much great information!  It's always nice to be able to do things this inexpensively!  Have you ever tried making a mask from beaten egg whites?  My sister swear by this trick!

Oh how cool, I have so many strawberries growing that many go to waste.  I'm happy to have another great use for them.

I really should try a few of those for my right eye!  That eye isn't very bad with dark circles and they might work.  My left eye, however, didn't get a dark circle until after I had a horrendous abcessed tooth that caused the whole left side of my face to swell.  It swelled so much that the corner of my mouth was pushed over a bit and my left eye was closed for almost 2 days.  After that there has been a permanent "bruise" under my left eye that nothing aleviates. *sighs*
