My friend has a dark, bluish circle under her eyes. Iam sure that she is having adequate sleep. What could be the reason for this other than lack of sleep.( My friend is really feeling inferior because of this problem and i want to get her out as soon as possible) . Any suggestions in this regard?

it could be genetic or environmental, perhaps both, things like radiation/pollution, any outside toxins, smoking, lack of vitamins, especially iron in the food, lack of sleep, too much sleep, stress, too much time in front of the computer, depression, I recently found out that thyroid problems could be one of the reasons as well, especially hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid gland.

Is she eating well and staying hydrated?  Poor nutrition and poor hydration can certainly contribute to having dark circles under the eyes.

I hate to be morbid, but is it possible they could be bruises? Could she be in an abusive relationship? This conclusion is more likely if the circles aren't present all the time, or if one eye is more affected than the other; less likely if the circles always look about the same and affect both eyes equally.

Her dark circles could be from stress or if she rubs her eyes a lot.  You could see if her eyes are slightly blood shot which would indicate excessive rubbing or you could just watch her passively to see if she rubs her eyes a lot.  I used to but have tried not to once I realized what it could be contributing to my dark circles.
Aside from that I am not sure what might be causing it without knowing more about her, her surroundings and her circumstances/lifestyle.  Hope this helps!
