Hi, all. I'm a newbie to your forum, and thought I'd cut right to the chase because I'm really getting tired of my eye circles. Right now, I'm wondering about something specific and am hoping somebody else out there has an answer or suggestion.

I'm a twenty-year-old woman in great health, but have brown circles under my eyes and my upper eyelids are almost the same color. I'm a fair skinned caucasian (although my skin isn't so white that it's translucent). So these dark brown circles next to my white facial skin make me look unhealthy or tired, even though I'm neither. I've heard that hyperpigmentation can be to blame in persons with dark skin, but like I said, I'm fair skinned. I cover them up with makeup (upper and lower eyelids), but am more curious as to possible causes. Is it possible that caucasians can suffer from hyperpigmentation around their eye area? And what would cause brown circles instead of the blue or purple that most other people complain about?

Thanks for the help! Smile

hi, i'm 23 and i have the same problem u do, i'm of mediterranean origin with a light olive skintone, my dark circles are brownish too...and yeah, caucasians with olive skin (no matter how fair or light) do get brownish/purplish eye bags similar to those of hispanics and asians...they are also prone to hyperpigmentation...usually the causasians who fall into this category are of mediterranean origin, or they might have a grandparent or grandparents who are meditteranean, and the genes for this have been passed down. in my case it's probably hereditary, plus i'm anaemic too and i used to smoke...lol...so they're quite bad in terms of the darkness mainly because it really contrasts with my skin tone Sad

Interesting...I'm not of Mediterranean descent, however. I'm 75% Scotch-Irish and 25% German. So I'm not really olive skinned. But it all causes the same effect--I look like a raccoon. Wink

Hi journalism_chick, do you know which type of dark circles that you fall into? I wrote about my dark circles here back then, http://www.mydarkcirclesblog.com/2007/05/11/what-dr-seckel-says-about-my-dark-circles-under-eyes/ and you can check out this article http://saveyourface.com/whatsnew/2006/12/18/medical-causes-of-dark-circles-under-the-eyes/ written by Dr. Seckel about types of dark circles.
