Just wanted to say Hi to everyone here and express my relief that I am not the only one who feels troubled by dark circles. First let me start off by telling you all about myself. I am 20 years old, I have hereditary dark circles (thanx dad), and have been struggling for a solution since I could work the internet. I guess I had them all my life. As a kid you dont really concern yourself with things like this, and when kids asked, "why do you have black eyes?", I would just make something up about being in a fight or something. Or when other parents asked, "wow look at you, you really need to get more sleep" I would just nod and laugh and say yeah. I really didn't understand why people were saying these things to me up until about middle school when that was seemingly all anyone could think about when they looked at me.  I got glasses in the 8th grade so I guess that helped a little bit because in High School the annoying questions stopped. Now in college I have friends, I'm not a really shy guy, but my self confidence is just about non-existent.

Whenever I look in the mirror thats all I can think about. I talked to my mom and sister about it, they of course dont have them, and they say, nah dont worry about it, you cant even tell. This is a terrible thing to say but sometimes I wonder what it would have been like if my mom didn't marry my dad. What would I look like without these things? Would I have better confidence? Would I be more attractive, more popular with women? Now its summer, my favorite time of year. Not just because of the warm weather, but because I get to wear sun glasses alot. I really feel different behind them, they seemingly take away all my frustrations with my eyes and I gain a great self confidence.

So now comes the time to try some solutions I guess. I've tried Vita-k, absolutely useless, and read up on other creams and they all seemed failures. I recently went to a dermatologist and asked if theres anything I can do about the circles. She said whatever you do dont buy creams, they are a waste of money, then sent me on my way. Thanx for nothing. My doctor told me I'm anemic and that might have something to do with it.

Well I hope I didn't bore you too much, but this was great for me to get it out like this. I can't really talk about it with anyone and even if no one reads this I'll be happy to get my feelings out somewhere.
I look forward to talking with some of you and trying new treatments, maybe the next one will be it.

Hi Jim and welcome!
Seems like there are at least a couple of guys in here with severe dark circles (what I mean by that is not the kind of dark circles you get from staying up all night or not eating the right food, but circles that you can't do anything about and that has a major impact on your self-esteem) and I too am one of them. I have had similar experiences as you since I was a kid and I know how it can kill your confidence.
Let's hope we can find a solution together!

My experience so far is:
  • doctors can't do anything about it
  • cosmetic surgeons can't do anything about it
  • creams/lotions are crap
  • makeup is no good
  • all the "loosing dark circles by doing this and that and having spoons in the freezer" tips doesn't work for me (because they are not there because of lack of sleeping)
  • still experimenting with the hollywood eye magic (see my post about it in "eye cream product reviews"), but it is not a perfect solution
  • tanning gives me the best results, probably because it gives my eye-area and the rest of my face less contrast. But staying very tanned all year round is a pain, especially if you live in colder areas of the worldI have asked the site admin about adding some new categories to the board so that we can seperate the guys with mild dark circles and us with severe ones, and work together towards a solution for our horrible problem.

Anyway, always nice to meet others in the same situation. Let's hope there is a cure out there!
